Middle Leaders

Alison Johnson – Joint Curriculum Leader of English

Alison Johnson qualified as an English teacher in 2002 with a PGCE from Sheffield Hallam University. She has spent the last twelve years at Moor End Academy. She has had roles in both the academic and pastoral teams and enjoys the challenges of both. In her pastoral role she was the head of both Years 9 and 10 using her teaching experience to manage behaviour taking responsibility for monitoring and intervention to improve attendance. She also took great care in ensuring the well-being of the students and worked closely with parents. Her experience in both aspects of school life makes her very aware of the necessity for teaching the whole child and ensuring that the academic side also nurtures students' confidence, ambition and responsibility.

Prior to taking up her post at Moor End Academy Alison worked at a school in Doncaster teaching Key Stages 3 and 4 plus English Literature and Language A'levels and GCSE Drama. Alison's first teaching role was as an A' level lecturer at Barnsley College which she started when she was twenty one years old, this made her realise that she had a passion for education and wanted to teach as her career. After finishing school Alison gained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classical Studies from the University of Liverpool and she then undertook a Master of Arts degree in Classical Civilisation with the University of Leeds. Recently Alison has completed a National Professional Qualification in Middle Leadership. She is always keen to continue increasing her skill in education through professional development. In the past Alison has done a research qualification into how to ensure outstanding teaching with the University of Huddersfield and she has coached on the "Outstanding Teacher Programme", In addition to teaching Alison is mum to two boys and volunteers with the scouting association.
