Alexandra Barraclough – Curriculum Leader of Humanities
Alexandra has always loved History and knew from a young age, it was the subject for her! At school, her History teachers were inspirational and able to tell stories from the past with enthusiasm. As a result, Alexandra continued her studies into sixth form, where she eventually achieved top 5% nationally for her History A-Level; she then achieved a place at her dream university to complete a degree in History! After graduating from the University of York in 2013 with a First Class in her ‘Specialist Subject’ and Dissertation, Alexandra knew that sharing her passion for the subject she loved, was the way forward!
Having completed her PGCE at the same university, Alexandra moved to Essex for her first teaching job in an ‘Outstanding’ school, where she stayed for three years. In her first year, Alexandra was selected as the Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator for Humanities, where she developed her passion for ‘stretching and challenging’ students and was chosen to complete a leadership qualification in ‘independence’. As a result, Alexandra was promoted to the role of secondary EPQ Co-ordinator – a qualification designed to support students applying for Oxbridge and Russell Group Universities. Under her guidance, the school sent their first ever History student to Cambridge University! For her final year at the school, Alexandra was promoted to Co-ordinator of History, where she led the department to their highest ever History GCSE results, at 95% A*-C.
In September 2017 Alexandra returned to Yorkshire to fulfil the position of Subject Leader of History at Moor End Academy. She is thoroughly enjoying her experience in a different environment and thrives on the challenges she faces. Shortly before Christmas, Alexandra was promoted to the position of ‘Leader in Learning’ to support the Senior Leadership Team in driving forward whole-school policy and has really enjoyed the opportunity to work with more of her colleagues at Moor End.
Beyond school, Alexandra enjoys keeping fit, and loves to travel. At 18 years old she made it her goal to travel to more countries than her current age, in order to immerse herself in the places she loves to teach about!
