Nigel Boothroyd – Curriculum Leader Geography
Nigel Boothroyd grew up in Sheffield and from an early age had a passion for the outdoors and exploration, which has never left him. After doing A levels in Geography, Geology and Biology he went to do a Geography and Geology degree at Keele University. At Keele he became actively involved in Mountaineering and Canoeing.
After University Nigel worked in Field Study centres teaching Geography and Outdoor Activities. He also travelled extensively throughout Europe, North America and Africa, mainly to the remoter more mountainous regions. Nigel then started working as a Geologist on the North Sea Oil Rigs, he worked in the Oil industry for nearly two years before deciding to train as a teacher.
Nigel did his PGCE in Geography and Outdoor Activities at Leeds University, after which he worked in Calderdale and Bradford. Once becoming an experienced teacher Nigel and his wife then decided to work for VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) in Tanzania. They worked in a remote rural location as well as in Arusha close to the Serengeti National Park.
After returning from Africa, Nigel worked in a school in Leeds, amongst his various roles he was Head of Geography, ITT coordinator and NQT coordinator. He also led fieldtrips throughout the UK and to South Africa.
He has been working as Curriculum Leader for Geography since 2016 at Moor End Academy.
Nigel is an active rock climber and caver. He has three children who are also keen on traveling and exploring the world.
