Louise Gatfield - Designated Safeguarding Lead
Louise came to Moor End as Assistant Principal for Additional Needs and is now a senior teacher specialising in safeguarding and is the Academy’s Designated Safeguarding Lead. Louise has responsibility for all vulnerable children at the Academy and is the Designated Teacher for Looked After Children. Louise has developed outstanding relationships with a range of Professionals in Kirklees and recently was asked to join The Reach Team which is a dedicated team of Professionals working together to prevent radicalisation and extremism working together on a Peace Building Research Project in Northern Ireland.
Louise has been commended for her strong work on safeguarding children by the CEO of South Pennine Trust, Jane Acklam OBE, Kirklees Children’s Safeguarding Board, the Prevent Hub and The safeguarding Governor Helen Metcalfe. Louise ensures all staff, students and Governors are trained to the highest standard and is confident staff know their responsibilities and know how to respond to any issues facing our young people.
Children at the heart of everything Louise does and she enjoys working with a skilled and caring staff team. Louise is very proud of the students at Moor End and from the moment she entered the Academy saw young people who were thoughtful, respectful and had a desire to succeed. The parents, carers and community members in the area have always welcomes Louise and she always feels fortunate that she has a role which allows her to meet such interesting people. The opportunities for development in her field has been exceptional since 2013 and she always highlights Moor End as an example of local and national effective practice. In 2016, Louise was approached by the BBC and interviewed as part of The Victoria Derbyshire Show to discuss Children Missing Education, to put Moor End at the forefront of excellence in keeping children safe.
In her personal life, Louise adores being with her family, children and grandchildren and her cat. She sings in a folk trio and has performed in festivals and folk clubs around the Yorkshire Area. Louise loves the arts and enjoys painting and live theatre. Her favourite days are being by the sea or socialising with friends and family in her husband’s coffee shop chatting to the local people over a cup of Yorkshire Tea!
