Our First Steps Towards Being World Class
Having arrived as Principal in April, I discovered a significant number of pupils who displayed a poor attitude to learning and deliberately disrupted lessons - meaning class teachers spent too much time trying to maintain order and not enough time teaching, which was seriously curbing the progress of our students.
To drive improvements, our mission statement: “Be the best – become the leaders of tomorrow!” and our core values (Respect, Ambition and Responsibility - everyday) were established and have been embedded into our daily routines as it’s my vision and mission to create a positive school ethos based on strong relationships and a culture of mutual respect. To achieve this, we implemented a new behaviour policy called ‘Positive Discipline’ with the key intention of creating an environment that encourages and reinforces exceptional behaviour. Teaching and learning was completely overhauled as we established the 5-phase lesson, as well as introducing silent independent ‘Red Zone’ in every lesson to ensure our learners are given the opportunity to execute sustained writing for significantly lengthy periods of time to truly prepare them for exam success.
The ambitious drive for excellence has resulted with a transformational
change in student behaviour and in their attitudes to learning. The academy is now a highly orderly and respectful environment as students conduct themselves well throughout the day.
I am truly honoured to serve this community and it’s vital we continue to work together to enable MEA to become a centre of excellence. I would sincerely like to thank our staff, governors, parent/ carers and our amazing students for all the support, hard work and dedication to our vision of being the ‘best’. The journey to world class has begun.
Have a great summer! We look forward to welcoming our students back to school on Wednesday the 5th of September.
